Ashley Barnett 's Death

So I'm sitting at home on a VERY atypical saturday night watching one of the three crappy channels I get and along comes an investigative news story all about Ashley. It was really strange that I actually caught the show b/c I hardly ever veg-out in front of the tube.

Anyhow, I really took interest in it b/c my room was on the same floor as Ashley's - What a tragedy her death was. I really hope this won't keep Xingo from happening in the future.

An Attorney friend of mine seems to think that the cruise will never happen again because of the incident. If any of you know this to be incorrect, please respond and give me some hope that an event will actually take place again in the future... Xingo was one of the best experiences I've ever had.

If anyone wants to take a look at the CBS News URL about Ashley's death, here it is:

Musicians and Concert-Goers Across the U.S. Can Now Green Up their Concert Experience

Green Mountain Energy Company and Sustainable Waves Team Up To Offer Eco-Tunes for Musicians and Concert-Goers Eager to Help Fight Global Warming

Austin, Texas (March 6, 2007) –Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation’s leading provider of cleaner electricity and carbon offset products, and Sustainable Waves, a national provider of mobile solar powered sound and staging solutions, today announced Eco-Tunes the first comprehensive program for carbon neutral music tours and events, which includes the availability of solar powered stages and sound systems. This initiative also includes the option for concert-goers to purchase a Be Green Ticketsm for these events, which will be the nation’s first green ticket program certified by Green-e, the nation’s leading independent certification and verification program for renewable energy.

“As a musician, I am so excited to be involved with Green Mountain and Sustainable Waves. Anytime I can do something positive for the environment, I'm always ready to jump in,” says G. Love, front man for the band G. Love and Special Sauce. “By making our tours carbon neutral, we embrace alternative, renewable energy sources and a cleaner, healthier future for our children. I'm down with the ‘green’ for sure.”

Eco-Tunes is unique because it offers fans, musicians, and promoters a one stop shop for greening up their concert experiences,” said Mark McLarry, Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Waves.

Green Mountain Energy Company and Sustainable Waves are partnering with several innovative ticketing agencies, such as In Ticketing and All Access Today, to offer the new Be Green Ticketsm option to concert-goers nationwide. When a Be Green Ticketsm is purchased, event goers are provided with up to 1,000 kilowatts (kWh) of Green-e certified renewable energy certificates to offset approximately 1,300 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2,) a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. These offsets can be applied towards the concertgoer’s emissions that were generated in traveling to the event or other household emissions. For example, offsetting 1,300 lbs of CO2 is the equivalent of not driving a car about 1,500 miles for one year.

“This is an exciting opportunity for music fans who want to help fight global warming by supporting new forms of renewable energy resources such as wind, solar, and biomass energy,” said Gillan Taddune, Chief Environmental Officer of Green Mountain Energy Company. “Upgrading to a Be Green Ticketsm makes it almost effortless and the Green-e certification process makes the purchase process both transparent and verifiable.”

The Be Green Ticketsm is available now and is initially being offered to about 500,000 fans nation wide through In Ticketing and All Access Today. Green Mountain expects the availability to ramp up significantly throughout the year as other ticketing agencies and artists join the program. Look for the Be Green Ticketsm through these artists, venues and festivals: Steve Kimock, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Perpetual Groove, Orpheum Theater and Pine Mountain Amphitheater in Flagstaff AZ, Tree Sound Studios, Harmony Festival, Boom Boom Room, 12 Galaxies, Catalyst, and Sunset Promotions (provided through In Ticketing) along with Willie Nelson, Pat Green, Cross Canadian Ragweed, and Jake Shimabukuro (provided through All Access Today), The Joshua Tree Music Festival and Camp Bisco.

About Green Mountain Energy Company

Green Mountain Energy Company is the nation’s leading provider of renewable energy and carbon offset solutions. Green Mountain began in 1997 with a simple idea: “to change the way power is made.” The company entered the renewable electricity market with the belief that if given a choice, consumers will choose a cleaner electricity product over polluting fossil fuels. The company has also helped spur the development of 14 new wind and solar facilities across the nation. Since 1999, Green Mountain Energy Company customers have collectively helped avoid over 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide. www.greenmountain.com

Greetings from The Mutaytor. We hope this note sees you doing well, and that you are having a great autumn. We have something special coming up, and we’d like to ask your help to please help us spread the word….

After a crazy year of national touring, we are bringing our show back home to Los Angeles, and we’re shooting our first concert DVD. We never dreamed that we’d be in a place where we’d be bringing our show to the rest of the world, and now we get to shoot our first DVD…it’s very exciting, and a little bit scary!!! Our date is for Friday, November 17th at the Fonda Music Box in Hollywood.
I read this article today and was reminded of Guy Grand's commitment to evaluating, understanding and counteracting the environmental impact of their events. What a gorgeous trend, hey?

It would be great to have a morning dj play at the lido deck...

Good ole' beautiful morning sway-y music by the likes of Random Rab (El Circo) or by Mr. Projectile (Meta Lab)...

The nights are always filled with pumping music. It would've been nice to watch the sunrise Saturday and Sunday morning with ambient downtempo going on ... :-)

Guerilla Jazz Project

I feel priveledged that I got to help bridge that performer/audience divide a little with some impromptu piano jazz on the Promenade and in the restaurants. Playing the luggage cart in the elevator lobby was nice, yet a small kit will be nicer this next Xingo-float-i. This time, methinks bringing my new upright bass and some more musical toys is in order. Maybe a banjo and a kalimba too. Hopefully the pianos will be accessible again and I won't get kicked off by Carnival security this time.

Any like-minded souls and musical dreamers around these parts?
What’s this, a fresh pint of Fat Tire Ale hand delivered to me by a gorgeous maiden of the sea.. …. I didn’t know there was such beautiful women in the navy…oh yes, quality and equality.. Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome New Belgium Brewery and their Fat Ales. We are excited to have New Belgium Brewery with us at the event this year. Not only do they craft a fine beer but they brew it using the power of the wind.
.
And now a toast….. To our additional artist…

Known as "the DJ for people who Dj's" and veteran of Xingolati, MOTION POTION (Robert Kowal) is one of the Bay Area's hardest working, most innovative, and versatile DJ's. By pushing the DJ technology to its limits, MoPo is able to mash any style, any genre, regardless of tempo - transcending the confinements of the usual dj genres. Legends like Isaac Hayes, Femi Kuti, Jurassic 5, Widespread Panic and Maceo Parker have all called on Mopo's deep vault of musical knowledge to open their shows. He is also known for live collaboration with bands such as Galactic, Garaj Mahal, Rebirth, George Porter Jr. and Scratch n Sniff (a 4 turntable electronica project featuring MoPo and SJ Littlewood).

GOOFERMAN, master purveyor of klown-fi euphonics. Grab a blender, throw in some P-Funk, Crystal Method, Soul Coughing, Looney Tunes, and a strong dose of indie circus, hit the Liquify button, and pull the lid off -- a drop on the tongue and you're there.
Winners of the SF Bay Guardian's Best of the Bay "Best Electronic Music Act" in
2005 and 2003; house band for the revolutionary Circus Metropolus.
Shaking the planet's ass two cheeks at a time.

Hola from Matty. I hope this note sees you doing well, and that you are finding health, happiness and mad passion in all of your creative pursuits! We are just getting back from the South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin TX with Mutaytor...it was quite full of mayhem and adventure. Evidence can be found at http://www.mutaytor.com/gallery/sxsw06 of our play, and we got to rub elbows with Perry Farrell, Flaming Lips and John Popper who came to see our show...hoi polloi hobnobbing!

We'll be bringing our Mutaytor dog and pony show to Anaheim House of Blues in a few weeks, and we don't have a huge community down there. We wanted to see if l could ask for some help from you to pass our invite to you to help spread the word.

Friday April 7, 2006
The Mutaytor with Special Guests Wolfie, Oscure and DJ Blue
House of Blues Anaheim
1530 S. Disneyland Drive
Anaheim, CA
http://www.hob.com/venues/clubvenues/anaheim/
All Ages Welcome, Mutaytor performs 2 unique sets
8pm DJ Blue
9pm Oscure
10pm Mutaytor
12 Midnight Wolfie

Any help would be duly appreciated. Orange County should be treated to barely clad, firebreathing, six-fingered maniacs flying through the air, especially a block away from Disneyland!

Simultaneously beautiful and intriguing, rich with an exotic flare that goes far and beyond what one would expect. There will be three performance areas with performance art, live music, dj’s and best of all complimentary beer and wine.

Women in corsets and stiletto heels are just part of the equation. Joining us for a stylistic European hopscotch will be DeVotchka. DeVotchKa's blend of gypsy instrumentation (accordion, bouzouki, and violin), mariachi horns, and flamenco guitar is perfectly suited for burlesque's vintage spectacle. With a powerful, quivering tenor and rakish leading-man speaks of the travails of a lovelorn urban castoff. He frequently paints in Southwestern shades with twangy electric guitar or adds brassy Mexicali tones on trumpet. That vivid evocation of place underlies the band's music. Deep in the stoic history of the SS Jeremiah draped in crushed velvet with DeVotchka you will feel transported.
The drummer was raised by Lithuanian polka musicians and studied mariachi horns. The bass player was in a traveling Civil War recreationist band. The singer came from parents - a Sicilian and a gypsy - whose marriage was arranged. He's toured relentlessly with classically trained musicians. The artists' influences are as varied as Eastern folk music, South American music, and North American folk and punk.

Crossing the line~ The Ritual

Performed by the Vau de Vire Society featuring Dr. Madd Vibe (Angelo Moore of Fishbone)
Directed by Mike Gaines….

On this the 27th of May you have been summoned here to our majesty’s ship the SS Jeremiah. On this day, you shall tender us an initiation in the mystic rites of passage of this community.

DJ Logic

DJ Logic has become one of the most in-demand session turntablists on the planet. Doing his own thing with his own style, Logic has a unique place in this new-world DJ order. Says Logic, “every good DJ has his or her thing that makes them unique. I like to think my thing is playing live music with real musicians, being part of a band and being a good listener.”

LOOP!STATION

Robin Coomer and Sam Bass. One woman, one man, one voice, one cello, multiple layered 'loops' hand tooled and shaped into lovely, cascading, provocative orchestral compositions with an immediate soul-rocking palpability.
Shake your Booty
We are happy to have our good friend Mopo, Random Rab and others spinning the booty shaking dance party aboard the SS Jeremiah. More artists to be announced!

The After Party Baby ~ 12 Midnight- 6 am

After you've rocked Prelude Du Xingolati on the battleship, get ready for an all-night dance fest featuring SF's nu school all-stars of dance and electronic music hosted by Lowpro Lounge. This late night rage-a-thon is going to take place in the brand new mega-club TEMPLE, a true fusion of eastern and western styles. Bejeweled with south-east asian art, cutting edge plasma screens, fiber optics, and giant dance floors... it must be seen to be believed. Guiding this multimedia experience will be DJ Dream Team members Laird and Smoove, a second set by DJ Logic, LA superstar edIT, SF breaks heros BLVD, and Lowpro operators J.Tonal, James Christopher and Audio Angel. Also
performing: international sensation Mochipet, B.Smiley, and Majitope.

Friday May 26th 7:00 pm- 11:00 pm

If the people lead, soon they will become leaders.
We are looking to extend the evening beyond panel discussions, breaking out into some larger action-directed collective brainstorming, where people get to hammer on specific questions and unearth ideas they have been sitting on. The vibe will include some down tempo chill ambience and perhaps some improb performance.

Who is Guy Grand...Keynote address: A look at what we have developed, who our community is and where we are going. We will look at the infrastructure of our community, our communication tools and how we can support each other in collaboration.

Forums and breakout sessions: There will be two primary focal points.

Artists, performers and entertainers: How can we be inclusive and support artists? How can we create opportunities for performers with Xingolati and beyond?

Culture and community. Toggling between the creative innovation of the underground and the financial reality of the mainstream; we are looking to create a space that is sustainable. How can we build events through art and entertainment that leave us with more than hangovers and depleted brain cells? We are looking to build events that nourish us and leave us with a new foundation that is a part of the mainstream.

Topics to consider

Artists & Performers

- Keeping track of new and tech innovations
- The role of grant-writing and event sponsorships
- Collaborating with writers/ poets/ copy-writers
- Cross-pollinating beyond the known
- Driving new fashion into the streets

Community

- Architecture~Urban Planning
- Sustainability~ education, collaboration, action
- Roles & Responsibilities
- Online communities
- Volume and Scalability through collaboration
- Positive attributes of the corporate structure

Vibrant wines provided by

The Edna Valley, in San Luis Obispo is home to Baileyana. In 1982, in recognition of its distinctive topography and climate, the eight-mile-long Edna Valley, which runs east and west, was designated an American Viticultural Area. These climatic conditions are ideal for growing concentrated Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and cooler climate Syrah.

&

A departure from the ordinary, Tangent explores the limitless possibilities of alternative white wines. Offering fresh, crisp and vibrant wines of true varietal character, Tangent is the first California winery to focus solely on alternative white wines. This concept was conceived by John Niven and Michael Blaney, the third grape-growing generation of the Edna Valley Niven family. The wines are made primarily from grapes grown in the cool coastal area of San Luis Obispo. Tangent is meant to convey a commitment to white wines other than the mainstream that is Chardonnay.

Prelude Du Xingolati

Hello everyone, long time no post. Wanted to introduce you to our latest event. Call it an extremely tasty appetizer to the main entree. Enjoy, Who is Guy Grand...

Prelude du Xingolati~ May 27
Xingolati has brought together communities, friendships and relationships of all kinds. We are excited to announce our next passér voir (visit)

May 27th aboard the S.S. Jeremiah historic navy vessel located at Pier 45 (Fisherman Warf) will be a brand new experience: Tucked in the shores of the San Francisco Bay, we’ll be at home with the Golden Gate Bridge at our backs and the lights of San Francisco within our reach.

Why a navy ship?
We are honored to celebrate Memorial Day in San Francisco aboard this historic ship that charged the beaches of Normandy to protect our freedom in a more genuine time. The inspiration behind the word “Xingolati” comes from the ritual held aboard navy ships when they cross the equator. Xingolati literally translates to “crossing the line.” It is at this point, that our ritual begins. The equator is equal distance from its polar opposites at the “0” degrees latitude. The ideal coordinates for the blending of worlds.

Is this Xingolati ?
The event is designed as a Prelude du Xingolati, a Xingolito if you will. It will be a blending of live music, performance art and DJ’s. We have reserved the boat for the 26th and 27th of May.

Friday night will be a forum in which we will discuss the future of Xingolati. As we apply the disciple required to make our dreams reality, we thank you for your patience and support while we navigate the opportunities before us. Please step with us through the choreography of this great dance.

Dolce Far Niente ....(blissful idleness)

At this place in history, we will meet again! Save the date,
May 27th 2006.
Tickets will go on sale March 15th.

Yowza, this is one of the dreamiest lineups that Mutaytor has ever put together! Karsh Kale and Banyan will be supporting Mutaytor on Friday March 10th at Henry Fonda Music Box. For those of you that came to our July party there with Do Lab/Lucent Dossier, you'll know why its one of the fattiest venues in LA to throw our kind of party....simply magical!

We played with Karsh Kale last summer at a Northern California festival, and it was love at first sight for both parties! Since the release of 2001's classic "Realize", his musical vision has taken him on a non-stop global voyage, playing alongside and working with some of the world's top recording artists and producers including Sting, Zakir Hussein, Bill Laswell, Pharoah Sanders and Herbie Hancock. Karsh is a tabla master, and he'll be spinning a brilliant dj/tabla set that night!

Last October, we met world-class drummer Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction/Pornos for Pyros) on the Xingolati Cruise, and it resulted in some of the most inspired music we've ever played. Stephen joined Mutaytor on drumkit and led the Taytor in some of the mightiest grooves in our band's history...absolutely legendary. We're very excited to announce that Stephen will be bringing his band Banyan to the Fonda that night to rock your ass to the core with some amazing musicians and performers. We're predicting some absolutely amazing and diabolical collaborations and surprises that night...and we'd love to invite you to come and play with us!!!

DJ Icey: (System Recordings, Zone Records, Essential Mix, FL): Known as the “King of the Funky Breaks,” Orlando native, DJ Icey, began his spinning career with a residency at the now defunct club, the Edge. Thought to be one of the hardest working DJs in America, Icey’s nonstop touring ethic gave him plenty of time to pioneer funky breaks and launch his remix-producer career. He also made history by convincing the then unknown Chemical Brothers to play their first U.S. show on July 4th, 1993, at the Edge. Sometimes packed with breakdancers, B-boys, Ravers, Club Kids, Suburban and even Inner-city kids, the dance floor is always an eclectic group, brought together by Icey’s unique flavor of breaks.

BLVD: San Francisco’s leading force for live house and breakbeat music is on fire, touring constantly up and down the West Coast. Drummer Dylan McIntosh surrounds himself with an array of acoustic and electronic drums, merging beats and samples to lay down an unwavering rhythmic foundation. Electric guitarist Curtis Sloane adds tight melodic riffs and looping patterns, as well as triggering programmed samples. Bassist Tripp Bains glues the sound together with a deep low end and fluid, pounding attack. This is a band to not miss out on. www.blvdtrio.com

Scratch n Sniff: Bringing the 4-turntable DJ team aesthetic into the breakbeat arena, Scratch n Sniff features British producer SJ Littlewood’s (sleevin.com) beats and Motion Potion’s acapellas, political speeches, instrumental fragments and effected wah-scratches. An attempt to make modern dance-music accessible to fans of funk, hip hop and live music, Scratch n Sniff adds an energy and serendipity rarely seen in the house/breaks arena. The two will celebrate the release of SJ Littlewood and B.Smiley’s new single “Secrets” at this event. www.motionpotion.com

DJ Mancub (Space Cowboys): From out of the SF underground comes the merger of the worlds of breakbeat and mashup, DJ Mancub of the Space Cowboys; who has become a local legend for his ability to add rock and funk to electronic beats. Mancub recently placed #10 in SF on Nitevibe.com’s prestigious “dream team” poll. www.spacecowboys.org

DJ Syd Grys: Syd Gris, promoter / DJ / and psychologist, is the man behind many projects pushing dance music forward in San Francisco and beyond. He founded Opel Productions and the Opulent Temple (at Burning Man) to combine his love of the SF underground vibe and the desire to reach people beyond that underground with a message of social justice, awareness, and a diverse range of kick ass DJ's. As such, he has hosted luminaries like Tiesto, Lee Coombs, Paul Oakenfold, Hybrid, Sandra Collins, Tipper, and many others. Playing a combination of mainly progressive and breaks, his sets are meant to capture and create an emotional moment to fit the occasion. So whether it's opening up for Hybrid or Oakenfold at Burning Man, or sharing a Love Parade float with Hyper and Evil 9, his passion for the scene he's helped foster and the music always translates right to the dance floor.

Mycho Cocoa (the Fringe/Lighter Knights): In his relatively short time as a DJ, Mycho Cocoa has already garnered a superb reputation as a top beat slinger in styles as diverse as Arabic breaks, and soulful house. He is a member of the Fringe Collective and the Lighter Knights. www.lighterknights.com

Victor Vega (the Fringe/Lighter Knights): Like the rest of the Fringe DJ’s Victor’s tastes run the gamut, but the NYC native is best known for his sexy smooth mix of Latin house and breakbeats. www.lighterknights.com

Big Dolla Bill a.k.a. Billete (the Fringe): a scholar of old-school hip-hop and archivist of fresh freakinstein creations from the world of mash-ups,. BDB plays a bumping mix of old and new beats infused with funk, rock, pop and hip-hop. His twisted sense of dance music is freakishly fun. www.fringecamp.com

Vau de Vire Society: The Vau de Vire Society was spawned from the depths of San Francisco’s thriving Dance and Circus sub-cultures. With Performers ranging from former Cirque du Soleil Aerial Acrobats to the most enticing go-go dancers, Vau de Vire is a Live, choreographed explosion of all that is beautifully talented. The group will be invading the venue and riling up the environs during the show. www.vaudeviresociety.com/about...x.html

Kaia (the Fringe): Beginning with homegrown imagery, Kaia has evolved her visual palette with STS9, Anon Salon, Moontribe, Traveling Corn, and other independent productions.

The Fringe: Proceeds from this event go to support “The Fringe” : an arts collective that supports bringing live and evolutionary entertainment to Burning man 2006 and beyond. For more info contact us at www.Fringecamp.com or talk with us at http://thefringe.tribe.net

yard dogs road show

Can anyone put me in touch with the yard dogs folks? I need to send some gratitude...or then again, maybe here is a good enough place to gush out the thanks to someone who's name I can't remember, but who's actions I'll never forget. Everyone likes to get stroked in public- don't they?

After the boat knocked me off my stilts (yes that was me, no I didn't ruin it for anyone, I was supposed to be on stilts, it wasn't slippery it was a fluke, my partner managed fine), I was sitting wondering whether or not I was broken- and considering the implications of my first fall ever- I realized I needed a drink. And then I realized that I didn't have my room key because of earlier complications. And then I realized that even if I did have my room key with me I couldn't get up and get a drink because I needed one arm to hold the other still. Fighting the gigantic wave of self-pity that threatened to overwhelm, I hollered: "Hellllp! I need a drink! Driiiinnnnk!!!" And *poof* like magic, one of the Yard Dogs folks came to my rescue with the utmost concern. He went off to get me a drink and came back not only with the sweet libation, but with a crew of people that dragged me off to the infirmiry, which I might not have done otherwise being the broke uninsured chicken-shit that I am. So like, thanks. A lot. I was mostly solo on the cruise and it was nice to get a little lovin' care at that moment.

PS- Your show fuckn rocked!

It's been a while since there was a
day that was spent just fucking off
and getting obliterated.

Well, it's about time.

There will be a shit-faced guy at
South Shores gazebo harrassing boaters
and sea-doers by way of the IPOD ATTACK.

Bring your coolers packed and a lounge
chair. It'll be a long and useless day
of nothing.

festivities kick off at 2pm and will go
until the LEOs show up at 8PM and take
a little break before the big Crispmas
showing.

Any of you have reccomendations for next year???

My suggestions:

David Byrne - For that funky Talking Heads groove - delicious

The Mars Volta - For that Spacey-Crazy Vibe

DJ Shadow - Need I say more??

!!!Thanks again everyone for the best musical experience I've ever had!!!

unauthorized credit card transactions - after the cruise???

Xingolatiers,
This is not a slight on xingolati. But just an exploratory question or me being totally paranoid. . .

I met an awesome person on xingolati. We stayed in touch after the awesome cruise. My friend mentioned that she had her credit card # swiped and had fraudulent charges. A week later, my credit card # was swiped. Luckily, I caught it after a couple of charges - my friend was not so lucky.

We both used this card on xingolati for the drinks purchased - I believe through the cruise company. We both have never experienced this fraud after using our cards for a decade. Then we both have issues - made us say hmmmmmmmmmmmm. . . .

So I am writing to see if anyone else had their credit card info messed with since the cruise. My info was sold to someone in Brazil. Anyway, just curious . . .

This is not a slight to anyone involved with the awesome cruise. Just making sure that we are all safe, sound and stoked to come back next year.

It's official. We are taking refundable $250 deposits for Xingolati 2006. Your deposit means more then you can imagine; beyond the obvious $. Just go to xingolati.com. Gracias, El Presidente:

The past couple weeks have left us all staggering trying to determine exactly what just happened. What does Xingolati mean and what does it mean moving forward? We've heard everything from:

"The craziest, the freakiest, the funnest, the most out of control party on a boat that there could ever, ever been." Anybody who didn't come is going to think, damn, I wish I would have come on that thing." - Wayne Coyne, Flaming Lips

"The Xingolati cruise was one of the best gigs I've ever played." - G. Love

"This historic cruise will redefine the concert industry forever." - Matty Nash (Mutaytor)

"Xingolati proved to be THE most delicious, beautifully-bizarre milkshake of everything that is right-on in this world." - Mikey Mike

I guess with this kind of response the only thing you can do is take a deep breath and climb right back on the saddle. So here we go again Xingolati 2006.

If you truly want to be a part of Xingolati, we encourage you to reserve your spot today. Put a deposit down for 2006 cabins! To save your spot on Xingolati 2006 (dates TBA) you can put a deposit down on your choice of a stateroom or suite. Once event ticket sales begin (dates and cabin prices TBA) you will then apply this deposit to your choice of cabin. Put down a deposit today and get a FREE DVD of the 2005 Xingolati once your full ticket has been purchased.

Alfred Howard & the K23 Orchestra (AH&K23) is a unique blend of hip-hop, rock, Latin, spoken word and jazz-fusion. The band consists of six pieces including; keyboard/organ, guitar, electric bass, drums, percussion/vibraphone, and a lyricist. AH&K23 is based in San Diego and performs weekly with regular shows at Winstons, Boom Boom Room, Flagstaff Brewing Company, the Whistle Stop Bar & the Belly Up. 2004 has placed the band on the road, touring the West Coast, performing at clubs, colleges and festivals.
The band’s shows are based around structured improvisation, stretching the songs on CD to extended jams with powerful crescendos and dynamic changes. AH&K23 has become unique in the hip-hop world by giving the musicians an equal voice to the lyricist therefore creating a collective and cohesive expression. AH&K23 has found an audience in the world of hip-hop, jambands, jazzheads, and poetry lovers. Alfred Howard’s lyrics transcend a style or genre, appealing to humanities most primal essence.

Howdie xingolatians!
Everyone in the Taytor crew had such a fantastic time on the boat with you all. Like complete dorks, we didn't have a single video camera for either the friday or saturday night's Lido deck shows. If anyone took footage or knows soemone who did, I'd love to swap a nice pile of Mutaytor schwag for a copy (doesn't matter if it's a mini dvd, Hi-8 or digital). It was one of the most exciting set of shows in our career with so many of our idols playing with us like Stephen Perkins, Angelo, Willie and more, and we can't believe that there's no video for our archives. Thanks Goodness Pixie got some amazing shots for our website!!

Thanks, and hope you're all doin well. Stay healthy!!

Support Xingolati 2006

To all fine friends who were blessed to partake in Xingolati 2005 and for those who did not --- please help support the efforts of Xingolati 2006!

I think I can speak for all of us in the sense that the first annual Xingolati 2005 was an unreal, unique and out of this world experience that introduced all of us to new friends and new music as well as giving all of us the opportunity to shine. Most of us on the cruise new at least one person directly that was either comp’d or given a large discount -- and for whatever reason people were comp’d, be it entertainment, promotional partners, services, etc. all of those dollars lost in the end probably did not help. I’m not one to speak about this or what the real financial aftermath is but what I do know is that the #1 way for this cruise to happen again, is to sign up early for 2006.

The largest driver of making Xingolati 2006 possible, is putting down a deposit which is fully refundable if the cruise ends up not happening. I am going to do this and I hope that some of you will join me in the effort and support of the boys (Neal/Mark and their team) at Guy Grand --- let’s make it loud and clear that their work did not go unnoticed.

The deposit right now is not too bad for one person so if you can, just try to make it happen, and remember, it is 100% refundable if the cruise does not happen. I know it’s a long way away, but while this past cruise is still fresh in our hearts and on our minds --- now is the time to do it.

Here is a link. Check it out:

http://www.xingolati.com/evinfo.php?eventid=9642

And please forward this email to any and all you want to go on this cruise!!!!! If you are reading this on tribe, please copy and paste and send out to your list of friends!

Much love and light.

Hey All! Mad props to Mark and the whole Xingolati crew for throwing the most fuctacular event of the year! And of course to all who participated. Myself and Lafa Taylor were throwing the elevator party (live beatboxing/keys) and were wondering if anyone could send us/ post pix of the elevator. I know some of y'all got some crunk photos, and a couple people even got some video. We'd love to check it all out, seeing that neither of us got a single picture of it. My email is boondiggy@aim.com and lafa's is lafataylor@lafataylor.com
or just put a link or message here.
I hope all y'all had as much fun as we did. See you next year!
love, JrOZ

Pgroove does Thriller, check out Brock's dance (very distorted):
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/thriller.avi

This is a MUST see, this is the party that happened on the elevator late night saturday (and sunday). SuzyQ, perc and I stumbled upon it after meeting Wayne. We rode it for a little while and I shot some video of this really good freestyle rapper. The mini-moog being played is HILARIOUS.
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/elevator_party.avi

The Flaming Lips
Race for the Prize. My personal favorite, tho very distorted. When they go from the slow section into the more upbeat section, the crowd errupts... watching the video still gives me chills:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/race_for_the_prize.avi
Bohemian Rhapsody:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/bohemian_rhapsody.avi
Wayne sings happy bday to several people:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/lips_happy_bday.avi
The end of Yoshimi, with puppet:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/yoshimi.avi
The new Lips song, hard to hear tho:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/lips_new_song.avi
A marriage proposal:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/lips_proposal.avi
A short video of Wayne speaking during the Zareika party:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/zareika.avi

The next few clips are from the Everyone Orchestra. It starts with their show in the venue, the clips aren't great. When they reached the curfue, a parade was led into the atrium and Matt Butler continued to conduct the masses in there.
In the venue,
The crowd is thrown into the mix:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/eo_crowd_conduct.avi
hoola hoopers on stage:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/eo_hoola.avi
the yard dogs feather dance:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/eo_yard_dogs.avi
the parade heading from the venue to the atrium:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/eo_parade.avi

La Bamba on the bus:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/la_bamba.avi

The Mutaytor:
Everyone on stage madness:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/mutaytor.avi
A hard to see clip of the circus type acts that mutaytor incorporated into their show:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/mutaytor_circus.avi

So You Think You Can Dance:
Perc gets loooooow:
http://www.mdolian.com/video/xingolati/perc_gets_low.avi
Perc skanks to slightly stoopid, also featuring Eley-o-Lati:

That 1 Guy, hard to see:

The Most Incongruous Moment

My favourite incongruity was during the WILD Saturday night romp, bands playing everywhere, incredible party atmosphere, people going crazy everywhere, elevator get-downs, and the biggest mess the ship has probably ever seen....

Somewhere about 5 in the morning I'm running down the stairs (again) and at one of the lower decks a sleepy little old man pokes his head around the corner, wearing a bathrobe, and asks me "Are they STILL paying music upstairs?!?!?"

It was so sweet, I wish I'd had a camera.

I lost a 10' Brown Bullwhip on Sunday night after my performance on the Lido deck. If anyone has seen its where abouts or happened to pick it up, I'd be super stoked to get it back....it's my favorite whip!!

Many Thanks!!

Okay, just because I was one of 5 black guys on the Xingolati cruise doesn't mean that I'm (1) part of the crew/staff/bodyguards or (2) musicians.

Can't a black man actually pay cold hard cash and enjoy his birthday on a weekend cruise like any other red blooded Amemrican?

Well?!?
